TropicalBass Soca Roundup #3

soca roundup 3

We are already in the last week of Carnival – no time to loose – let’s look into a few Soca tunes for this Trinidad Carnival season.

Machel Montano – M.O.R. (Ministry of Road)

We start with Trinidad’s superstar Machel Montano who will leave nothing untouched this season. The ‘Ministry of Road” is a solid jump-up tune, perhaps not his best but it will make people go crazy in the streets:

Major Lazer & Machel Montano – Sound Bang (Soaka Version)

This tune produced by the incredible Kubiyashi from St. Vincent is beyond Soca, somewhere between the Major Lazer Dutch House sound and Soca drum patterns. Bad tune though.

Machel Montano – H.M.A. (Happiest Man Alive)

Machel’s groovy tune for the season.

Bunji Garlin – Truck on the road

Our favorite artist Bunji Garlin made his international break-through outside the Soca circels with “Differentology”. Now this one is superbad, produced by our favorite producers Jus Now. When it comes to the lyrics, they are also easy to singalong to even after countless rum punches. Pam pam!!

Bunji Garlin – King’s Arrival

Bunji Garlin – Pat Yuh Drum

This one is on the Bateria Riddim which really sounds like Carnival – drumming and thats it. Just to remember what Carnival is about! Nice!

Farmer Nappy – Big People Party

Very nice and melodic groovy soca by Farmer Nappy.

Mr Famous – Play more local

If this all sounds like house music and you want the good ole Soca back, you are already over 35 and will love Mr Famous tune which gained crazy airplay in Trinidad.

Destra – Road Call Calling Meh

Oh yes, the Queen of the Bacchanal comes with a very solid slammer:

KI & 3Veni & Olatunji – Runaway (Remix)

Kris V. Pesad aka KI is the crowned Chutney Monarch for the 2014 and “Runaway” was his winning tune. This one is the remix with the band 3Veni and the singer Olatunji.

Iwer George – Mama Oh

New jump-up by the self claimed big man in the business, Iwer George. Catchy hook in this one.

Kerwin Du Bois & Lil Rick – Monsta Winer

No, this one is not 2014, but you will hear people wine and sing-a-long to this all over. Kerwin Du Bois from Trinidad and Lil Rick from Barbados with Cropover smasher.
