Grande finale 2011 for Riddims Tropicale. DJ Silent Pressure (you already know him from #16) came over to the studio to have some cool drinks and wobbly basses. No special topic this time, just rocking back to back, strictly genre-hopping and having fun. Over 2 and a half hours of tropical ping-pong starting with some nice Semba from Angola moving over to Soca, Bass, Kuduro, Mambo, Funky, House, Zouglou, Reggaeton, 3ball, Tropical and so on. The whole session ends – how else could it be in December – with a quick Parang session, Trinidad’s own christmas music everybody enjoys.
Riddims Tropicale is a monthly radioshow presented by TropicalBass.com streamed live every first Sunday of the month 2030h CET on Raggakings Radio. Hosted by Marflix with occasional guests.

New edition of the monthly show Riddims Tropicale presented by TropicalBass.com, hosted by your boy Marflix, streamed live on Raggakings Radio. In October we dive into the land of soulful voices, groovy percussions and forgotten string chords: Afro-Deep and Afro-House.
To be honest this beautiful music was neglected by Riddims Tropicale – in spite of all the great releases recently. Time to have a closer look now. This will probably not please the jumpup-wooble-people or the soundsystem-massive who are used to fast mixing, no music to drink Rum to, but: you will hear some awesome groovy soulful music for your enjoyment! Leave some comments and let me know if you liked it.
Again big thank you to all the listeners of Riddims Tropicale! The Sept edition with Silent Pressure was downloaded 7000 times so far!

September edition of our radioshow Riddims Tropicale.
Back from Notting Hill Carnival in London we just jump right into a new edition of Riddims Tropicale. The Carnival itself was fantastic, even if the roads seem to get fuller and fuller every year. Anyway we meet some old and new friends, enjoyed the Caribbean kitchen (Roti & Chana & Pepper Sauce) and feting hard on the numerous events.
On this picture you see Poirier and myself taking over the Heatwave Fete in Brixton. :P

Beside tracks from the new compilation “Valeu” on Man Rec., a new exclusive Danny Scrilla track and new remixes by SoShifty this show has a focus on Coupe Decale (inspired by the Rue Princesse Festival last week in Berlin – more about this soon on TropicalBass.com). The last 30min we digg deep into Cadence, Bouyon and Soca from the Lesser Antilles of the Caribbean – Dominica and Martinique.

Riddims Tropicale #8 – August

The August edition with a focus on the Summer carnivals in the Caribbean and the diaspora (Rotterdam, Notting Hill UK, Miami, NY Labour Day,..) was never posted here because unfortunatly the last 20min got lost while recording the stream. I wanted to recover or redo the lost party but never found the time – but hey, the show is already 1h 40min listening pleasure!

The summer is here in mainland Europe and we Berliners are facing a solid heatwave with over 38 degrees in the shade. To get through the heat with some laidback selection we invited DJ Zhao for this edition of the Riddims Tropicale radioshow. He came by for a cold beer, a aged rum on the rocks and a handfull of amazing tunes from Africa and the Caribbean – Kizomba, Zouk, Dancehall, Reggaeton, UKFunky..
For those who missed the radioshow we have the podcast available now for download.

June edition of our podcast show Riddims Tropicale, presented by TropicalBass.com. Host: Marflix
This month we focus on urban music from South Africa, namely Kwaito and Kwaito House, the “township music”. Kwaito is a perfect example for a genre which is influenced by House, RnB, Rap and Garage but has it’s very own characteristics which let is stand out – the music is always associated with a local cultural context that brings out some extra meanings and messages even if the rhythm patterns might sound familiar to western ears.
All artists in the show are from South Africa (to my knowledge) except Lady May (from Namibia) who released two albums on my label Faluma Africa, and “Vuvuzela Funk“, a Kwaito House / Funky – Hybrid with myself on the beats.
Live stream every first Sunday on RKRadio.
