As the name already suggests, Gun Selectah is the collaborative work of Toy Selectah and Mexicans with Guns, both well known on the forefront of contemporary latin-infused Tropical Bass music.
After an extremely limited physical run (500 copies) their EP of the same name was dropped digitally today on the Friends of Friends imprint. “Gun Selectah” came to life after the two producers met through the Peligrosa guys and started to exchange musical bits, “out of respect for each other’s music”, as Mexicans with Guns Ernest Gonzales says on his blog. The EP features magnificent remix work by the likes of DJ Orion, Matt Shadetek, LOL Boys, Sonora and more.
“Como un Perro” starts as a twisting reminiscence to this certain 60s southwestern/surf sound that Tarantino likes so much but soon morphs into a brute and dark Raverton. “Villa Ghetto” is a quite dark take on latin, a frantically shaking, highly energetic production that makes use of lots of horns. LOL Boys deliver a ravy and percussion-heavy remix of it, while the HxdB remix of “Poppin Wheelies” is the right choice for everyone with a more minimalistic click-click taste.

Not on the EP, but ultra-highly recommended to everyone with a taste for Tribal Guarachero is DJ Otto’s remix of “Villa Ghetto”. It’s menacing, it’s skipping, and it’s available for free:
