Captain Planet: The Ningané EP

Posted on 26 June 2011 by Caballo

Featured in HBO’s Entourage and CSI.. everytime a “salsa funk” tune is featured on TV it has a familiar sound..
Speakin Nuyorican by DJ Captain Planet

Captain Planet returns back to form on Bastard Jazz Recordings with a dancefloor-destroying 12” steeped in the tough international breakbeat sound that he’s become known for, leading up to his first full length album, called Cookin’ Gumbo dropping in September.

Get this FREE Download
“Dame Agua” is a fire-breathing Latin scorcher with massive percussion and drums, stabbing salsa horns, bubbling organs, and vintage-sounding vocals put on the chopping block!
Captain proves time and time again that he can deftly flip an array of global sounds into a sound that is undeniably his own. Also included on the B-Side is an instrumental of “Ningane”.

Posted on 31 December 2011 by Caballo

Tropicalbass Editor Jelka dropped our review for 2011.. Make sure you read all of those amazing selected releases!!

Although I would like to make a more detailed description why I chose each track.

Best Song (Over all)
Guapo Feo- Oro en Polvo
I chose this song because it evokes me how something sexy can be dark and heavy at the same time.
This song for me is the beginning of moombasoul and moombahcore as we know it.. this song is January 2011!! and it made it to the top all year long!!
Guapo Feo – Oro En Polvo by barneyiller

Posted on 31 December 2011 by Jelka

Wow. Already writing my second annual review feels weird. And great at the same time.
That baby called will turn 2 years soon, and we are still more than happy with it. 2011 was an interesting year for the musical styles we prefer and also for the blog itself. We were happy to welcome Caballo as a new contributor and get more and more embraced by a even wider scene all around the globe. Perfect point to give some shout-outs: to all our readers, to all that producers, DJs and fellow bloggers, to everyone we met during the year, to all the headphone companies out there and everyone who shared some inspiration with us.
All of you keeping the game running and pushing good music forward – keep it up in 2012! Continue Reading

1 – Proa – Tremor
Tremor has a new Album out via Nickodemus Wonderwheel Records. Taking the new folklore to a different level, in where analog meets digital, but still preserves most of the organic richness that has made tremor one of the best ‘world music’ acts in the world.

2 – La Guanabana Dulce – Cacique Jaguar
This one, starting with some Bullerenge, comes from an beautifull EP “Cumbia Ritual” released by Canal Dub

Neber3 – Lupita y el Doctor (REMIX Dj Neber) – Chicha Libre vs Dj Neber
Javier Martinez Loredo de San Luis Potosí, Mexico is well known for his Hip-Hop Cumbia Mash Ups. Here he makes Chicha Libre swing in a Drum and Bass Style.

Cumbia Ritual5 – Ay Curura – Cacique Jaguar
Another one from the Cumbia Ritual EP. Great interpretation of a Toto la Momposina Classic.

Paris again, Latin Bass Mexico again – here comes Worldwide Traveler Rafael Aragon with his Latin/Arabic Roots and a Tune remembering Manu Chaos Guitar Work as his best.

Systema Solar13 – El boton del Pantalon – Systema Solar
La Revancha del Burro is the Name of the new Album soon to be released from the Colombian Super Group. For me one of the Albums of the year. Here I come with a lil bit of Champeta.

Another one from the cool Tremor Album “Proa”

15 – Muevelo Negra – Quantic & Nidia Góngora
Last Round up we had Quantic with Anita Tijoux and a real Banger this Round Up we have him with Nidia Góngora and a real Banger. In his won words “Quantic, aka Will Holland is a British born Musician, Producer & DJ making Soul, Electronic & Latin Music saturated in the tropical soundwaves of the Carribean. Currently working from his Sonido del Valle studio base in the highlands of Bogota, Colombia, Holland has developed a sound that bridges heritage and progression, marrying spontaneous musicianship with deep, exciting tonality.”

subversivo16 – Que dira el Santo Padre – DJ Subversivo
Mauricio Araya Sandoval aka DJ Subversivo, Mastermind of KONN Records comes from Santiago de Chile and has a new EP out wich he simply calls “Remixes” The EP is a freeload and this is a Must-Download-Album. Y play this beautifull Remix of Violeta Parras Classic.

17 – Bouzouki Criminal – BXP Soundsistema feat. Paco Mendoza (Original Mix)
This one is not really Cumbia but I know some Cumbieros who love to mix up Cumbia with Balkanbeats and as Paco Mendoza allways got some Cumbia in his blood I play this brandnew Production from Kosta Kostov here.

18 – Toma Que Toma (Alan Rosales Remix) – Daniel Haaksman
OK here comes Godzilla vs King Kong – The Supermonsters fighting out a 3ballistic war. One of the most interesting 3ball Producers from Mexico DF – Señor Alan Rosales is remixing Man Recordings Mastermind Daniel Haaksman from Berlin, Germany.
