Dillon Francis – Westside EP

New Moombathon for everyone who can’t decide between a like for Dutch House and Reggaeton!
For his debut release on Mad Decent Dillon Francis got the support of the label’s heavyweights, namely Diplo, Dave Nada and Maluca.
Seems like Moombahton is really invading US dance (or college?) clubs lately, proved not only by the focus Mad Decent has taken on the genre but also the success of DJs like Munchi (who will release on Mad Decent soon, too).
The “Westside” EP has a strong Moombahcoore touch, all jacked up, Electro, and very very Dutch House compatible. “Masta Blasta” is announced by Mad Decent as a “flagship track for the movement” – it’s mass appeal is undeniable. The title track “Westside”, a coproduction with DJ Ammo (who also did productions for the Black Eyed Peas *cough* and Kelis) is pure frenzy, almost on the edge of panic. Major Lazer used to open their shows with it’s Dutch House tinged synth stabs. “Que Que” got that distinctive Moombahton feel again – Maluca delivers such a racy speech over the jittery beat that is pure hapiness. “Brazzer’s Theme” finally (together with Dave Nada) comes also in a Munchi remix, complete with pitched sirens praising the joys of online pornographic portal brazzers.com.

  1. DILLON FRANCIS SOUNDS LIKE A CHEAP MAJOR LAZER IMITATOR. WOW, COMMON DIPLO… CAN YOU SIGN SOMEONE THAT ISNT A TRENDY FRAT BOY? TWO THUMBS STRAIGHT DOWN.

  2. yes, i’m with you. in my opinion the remix work dave nada and munchi did is quite enjoyable, but the original tracks, “masta blasta” in particular, are as boring as can be. when i read the press release mad decent did, talking about a “flagship track for the movement”, i was thinking of a joke.
