First of all, there are two great collaborations with our friends from Dreadsquad! One of them is on their Sleng Teng Riddim re-lick and can be downloaded for free.
The second one is a tune from Dreadsquad’s MT-41 Riddim Selection, which was completely produced with the same called Casio Keyboard (whose brother, the MT-40, provided the sounds for the legendary “Sleng Teng” riddim in 1985)
You might already know this one. It’s featured on Murlo’s Nectah EP, but in case you’ve missed this awesome Soca / Global Bass Hybrid, listen a short preview here:

More Carnival content on TropicalBass.com. This time we leave the fancy and groovy section and move on to the real, the dirty and oily side of Caribbean Carnival.
Tallpree from Grenada is a household name since more than a decade when it comes to “Jab” music. A jab is a demon character in the Caribbean mythology. The Grenadian version is basically oil, oil and more oil – simple as that.
Enjoy this dark video film on spot in Morne Delice / Grenada in an area known as the “Jab Jab Village”.
We are in right in the middle of the high season of Soca & Carnival music. Another sweet Groovy Soca video by Lady Gypsy singing about the vintage wine from the good ole days before the influence of Jamaican dancehall. If you never heard about Lady Gypsy but the voice sounds kinda familiar, don’t worry: she is Fayann Lyons mother. Actually Lyn “Lady Gypsy” Steele won the Calypso Monarch title in 2010.
Wining has nothing to do with the drink wine, but with a dance common in the Caribbean which has a lot to do with body controll, bumper rotation and sex.
There is another 2012 tune – not really Soca but Kaiso, the modern successor of Calypso.
Another groovy soca video for this Trinidad Carnival season: Erphaan Alves – In Your Eyes, voiced over the Antilles Riddim. Production by Precision Productions.
But there is more:
A brandnew jump-up soca combination by Erphaan Alves with Machel Montano (Precision Productions again) can be downloaded for free and you should grab now:
Congo Tardis #1 is waving the flag for Tropical Bass in Australia! They are the first australian tropical / tribal soundsystem represented by the Melbourne based DJs and producers Ms Butt, Paz and Lewis CanCut. Their first offical Release, a 3-track EP with the appropriate title “Number One”, is out now, worldwide! To be honest, I really was looking forward for this, in my opinion it gives a very good overview of the variety of styles they play. There are elements of 3ball Guarachero, Cumbia, UK Funky, Kuduro, Dancehall, Bashment, Kwaito, Baile Funk, Afrobeat, Dub, Dubstep, House, Latin Funk and Disco, Soca, Swamp Funk, Krewe Beat. In other words: everything we call “tropical bass”. I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy this.
Prelisten the EP here and hit the “Buy” button, to cop it, if you like:
and make sure you’ll watch the official Video to the great Marawa the Amazing featured Single “Sweet Lime”
to check their dj skills, you can give this short promo mix a listen
Carnival is coming nearer and nearer – which is a good thing because the music output from Trinidad is getting hype till it’s climax end of February. New groovy soca single by Farmer Nappy, former singer at the band Xtatik. This song was produced by the producer team De Red Boyz from Barbados who did several successfull singles with him.
Video directed by Peter C. Lewis, also former Xtatik member.
New groovy soca by Trinidad’s Machel Montano – Mr Fete. This tune is already large in Trinidad at – you guessed it – fetes. A carnival fete is a large party with soca brass bands during carnival, usually open air. On some fetes there are 30 000 people and more attending.
